The Crawford County Chapter of the Oho Genealogical Society turns 50 this year!
To celebrate the longevity of our organization, we will be posting articles from our inaugural newsletters over the next few months.
The below article was originally published in Volume 1, Issue 1 of the Crawford County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society Newsletter in January, 1975.
The Crawford County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society began in the fall of 1973.

Mainly through the efforts of Miss Patricia Ellis, a teacher in the Galion School System, an
organizational meeting was held April 26, 1974. During this
meeting a constitution was adopt ed and the following officers were elected: President- Miss
Patricia Ellis; Vice-President Mrs. Ed Fox; Treasurer – Douglas Young; Recording Secretary – Mrs. James Lohr; Corresponding Secretary – Mrs. Robert Virtue.
Some activities of the chapter have been visits to the Office of the Crawford County Recorder, the Ohio Historical Museum in Columbus, and the Ohio Genealogical Library in Mansfield.
Also the chapter has visited the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Bucyrus to hear an appeal for the preservation of a historical site and heard a lecture on “Primary Sources” by- Mrs. Budd
of OGS. The project selected by the chapter has been to locate and list the cemetaries in
Crawford County. Presently our chapter has 25 members.
