Creating Church Records in Crawford County

The below document is in the Crawford County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society Church Records Collection.

LOCATING CHURCH RECORDS PROVES TO BE SOME OF THE TOUGHEST JOBS FOR CHURCHES
THAT ARENOLONGERIN EXISTANCE.

Winnie Kleinknecht and Mary Fox archiving church records circa 2005

THE CO-EDITORS OF TRACKING SPEND MANY HOURS ABSTRACTTNG CHURCH RECORDS FROM MICROFILM, BUT THOSE ELUSIVE CHURCH RECORDS STILL HAVE TO BE FOUND. SUMMER 2005 THEY EMBARKED ON A TRlP TO ‘BEEGLEY UNITED METHODIST ARCHIVES LIBRARY” IN DELAWARE OH. WITH THE HELP Of THE WONDERFUL ARCHIVIST, CONFERENCE RECORDS OF UNITED BRETHERN CLASS MEMBERS WERE LOCATED. SlNCE WE DIDN’T HAVE ANY LIST, 1T WAS SOMETIMES DIFFICULT TO KNOW JUST WHICH CLASS BELONGED TO CRAWFORD COUNTY, BUT AFTER DEVELOPING A FOLDER SYSTEM FOR EACH CHURCH CLASS, THE SYSTEM BEGAN TO WORK. AT LAST, NAMES Of MEMBERS FOR THESE “LONG GONE CHURCHES” WERE BEGINNING TO APPEAR! FURTHERMORE, WE MAKE COPIES
OF THE EVANGELlCAL CHURCH AND METHODIST RECORDS. SINCE THE CHURCHES HA VE UNDERGONE SO MANY MERGERS IT IS ‘TEDIOUS’ TO FIGURE OUT WHERE THE RECORDS ARE HOUSED.

Above is an excerpt from the chapter’s Methodist Archives Church Collection dated 2009. Please take a moment to thank our volunteers for all their hard work making these collections available to members and Crawford County family researchers! Send a Thank You Message to the Board.
